Sheffield 2016

Hawks 10 - 10 Birmingham

Hawks finished off a busy weekend of games for the clubs with a 10-10 draw with Birmingham. The game was closely fought throughout with the lead swapping several times. Ultimately errors leading to a loss of possession handed Birmingham the goals they needed to pin Hawks to a draw. With the Hawks leading Birmingham scored the equalising goal in the last minute.A string of vital saves by Elliot Makin made him a standout performer alongside the sharp shooting of Joe Carr.An excellent start by a team who like the Comets have a lot of potential for the season to come.

Comets 8-11 Otter lutra

The Comets fell to an 11-8 loss to Otter Lutra. The second match of the day and the third of the weekend brought extra challenges for the tiring Comets.Despite a strong Otter start the Comets rallied hard to stage a comeback which could have seen them wrestle the win.The Comets carried a strong 6v6 defence from the weekend into the final game however tired decision making and losing possession in attach proved costly. There was plenty of grit and character on show none more so than Lucy Thomas and Amy Rudman. The weekend was a successful one for the comets. It is an exciting development team with a blend of youth and experience and I look forward to a very promising season ahead.

Comets 8-7 Tyldesley

Comets hold on to clinch an 8-7 win against Tyldesley. After steaming into a 5-0 lead at half time, concentration lapsed in the third period allowing Tyldesley space to score to narrow the comets lead to 7-5.A refocus for the final period meant the comets were able to record a hard fought win.Lucy Thomas, Thea Simpson and Jodie Adams played a key role in calming the team for the final period and showed great maturity to lead the team to a final game result despite very little rest throughout! As well as a return for Aimee Barrington the game also featured two well worked Man Up goals for the lefty duo of Martha Warrilow and Anna Ticehurst.

Hawks 9-10 Castlefield

A good first game for the Hawks as they narrowly fell to a 10-9 loss to Castleford.Jos Winstanley, Mikey Patterson, Ben Dailey & Conor Lynch all made their league debuts whilst there was a club debut for Cam Richards. It was also the first weekend for new Hawks coach Aaron Winstanley.Poor Man Up play proved costly in the end but that didn’t overshadow a great performance by a young Hawks team who came back from 9-5 down to level 9-9, unfortunately it wasn’t to be and a goal in the final minute handed Castleford the win.

Comets 6-3 Liverpool Liver birds

The Comets opened up the season with a convincing 6-3 win over Liverpool LiverBirds. The win featured the return of Amy Rudman and Lauren McGinty.Standout performances by Becky Yates at Centre back and Niamh Campbell O’Donnell in goal lay the foundations for a a well deserved win.
