Polytechnic V City Of Manchester
This Long journey was against COM down to Polys Clissord Leisure Centre. A shorter, narrower 25m pool also stifled the counter attacking swims of Manchester and constricted the play somewhat. Hard, physical tackles and good ball retention created numerous Poly exclusions and chances on the Poly goal. Manchester struggled to initially convert these chances winning the first quarter 3-0. The majors and chances kept coming but a fight back in the second and third period by Poly saw the half ending 5- 2 to COM and third quarter 7-3. Two Missed/Saved COM Penalties and a number of Man Up chances for Manchester should have been scored. The final quarter saw Poly suffering with the Manchester tempo of play and the earlier majors resulting in a number of excluded players for Poly. A couple of more clinical counter attacks and converted Man Ups resulting in Manchester scoring 5 to Polys 1 to win away 12 - 4.
The long journey back up made more manageable with the second win in two games and a quick drink with the host team Poly. Portobello (home) beat Bristol (away) in the other fixture meaning
COM sit top of their group with two games played out of six.
