Hawks in Gloucester 2016

Match review for Manchester Hawks for the weekend of 12th / 13th November 2016.

The Hawks first match was against Ealing, on a weekend where the team needed to win all 3 matches to finish in the top 5. With a strong start in the first quarter, goals from Jos Winstanley, James Moffat and Jimmy Salt gave the Hawks a commanding 4-1 lead.

Our defensive work was impressive, with the man of the match Elliot Makin making 4 outstanding saves, plus saving a penalty. Leading from start to finish, the Hawks were victorious 13-6, the only down side to a strong performance, was Jimmy Carr getting red carded in the 3rd quarter.

The second must win game was against Hucknall, this was a much closer game, only 1 goal separating both teams through the 4 quarters. Once again Elliot Makin turned in a performance to be proud of, making some impressive saves, especially in the 3rd quarter. Goals from Jos Winstanley, Dave Teasdale, Tom Hadley, Jimmy Salt and Michael Patterson kept the Hawks in the game; in the last quarter history repeated itself when leading 11-10 with seconds to go Hucknall scored to draw the match.

The third and final match was against Watford, Hawks still in with a chance of finishing in the top 5, started strong but conceded 3 early goals, and they never recovered. Watford were a strong and fast team, taking shots from all areas of the pool, at the end of the 3rd quarter Watford had a commanding lead of 15-4. During the 4th quarter all the under 18 years old were put into the pool together and all played really well showing that the Hawks team has a strong future, with Jack Phillips recording his first senior goal. The match ended 7-18 to Watford, meaning The Hawks are in the group to try and retain their Division 3 status.
