Edinburgh Men/Women 2016

Manchester Men & Women maintain their unbeaten run!

Day 1 in Edinburgh After the long trip up to Edinburgh the men began Manchesters weekend with a 7-7 draw with Caledonia in front of Scotlands home crowd. Some strong Centre forward play by Barry James and Jack Wilkins and a Man up scored by Lewis Daly put the men 5-3 up at half time. The third period saw two goals without reply for Caledonia. The score being 5-5 heading into the final period. Two well taken goals by Lefti Chelioudalis and a single Caledonia goal left the score as 7-6 to Manchester heading into the final minute. However an exclusion and a well taken Caledonia Man up goal left honours even in Edinburgh for the men.

The women's game saw the absence of several junior international who are representing ESSA in Malta and so a tough test for our depleted ranks. The women played Leeds in their first game of the weekend and overcame a strong Leeds team to notch a 10-7 win. Fine goalkeeping by captain Jade Smith and tenacious defending by Courtney Dean & Becky Lee last the foundations for a hard fought Manchester performance. Manchester took control of the game from the beginning with some great link up play between the Egan sisters Polly & Rosie winning Exclusions in Centre forward and some well taken goals by Emma Bartlett amongst others. A fight back by Leeds reduced the deficit to just one goal heading into the final minutes. However good control by stalwarts Ella Chadderton & Casey Smith and excellent defending by Izzy Howe meant that Manchester were able to thwart Leeds efforts and extend the lead to a final score of 10-7. The game also saw an impressive second debut for Hannah Rudman who's returned to the club after a few years absence. She marked the occasion with a thunderous cross cage top corner finish.

Day 2 sees the women play Scotlands Caledonia whilst the men face up against local rivals Lancaster City.
